I always make everyone take off their shoes.  This is the best thing for my carpet, right?

Actually, when you walk barefoot or in stocking feet on a carpet, foot oils and sweat are deposited on the carpet. This makes the carpet sticky and attracts dirt.  The best thing to do is wear house slippers. Because asking your guests to take off their shoes may make them feel uncomfortable, just vacuum when they leave to remove any dirt they may have brought into the home. You never know if they have foot diseases, holes in their socks or stinky feet; it's probably better if they leave their shoes on.

What are those black lines around my baseboards and stairway edges?

These are infiltration lines that appear when the air passes through the cracks around the baseboards, or cracks in the plywood floor under the carpet, and along the stairway edges and under doorways. Every house breaths, but some have more problems than others. Some homes have darker lines due to smoking, candle burning, excessive frying with oils, or even from having smoke or small fires in the kitchen. These lines can be difficult to remove but we usually have great success because of our equipment which includes heat and special tools that gets down into the fiber. Once we clean these areas you will need to vacuum, paying special attention to vacuuming along the affected areas to help remove soiling instead of letting it build up. It is best to get on a proper cleaning schedule, as well as eliminating the things we mentioned above that increase the severity of the black lines.

What do I do with my dog & cat while you clean?

We love to be greeted by our clients' pets so that we can pet them but they will need to be placed in a room that we will not be cleaning.  Many of our clients put them in the laundry room, bathroom or basement area while we are there cleaning. Pets should be left adequate water & food.  We don't want a pet to escape out the door that we have opened to clean.  Nor do we want to be responsible for a pet getting lost. It is almost impossible to keep up with pets while we are cleaning.  For their safety it is best that pets are not walking in the areas where we  have our hoses and cleaning tools, etc. We will leave them a treat when we are done to make them feel better if they are upset. Most of our regular clients have us let them out of a room when we are finished; often, because the client is not home while we clean.

What are the benefits of having you apply protector?

Protector is always a good investment because once the carpet is clean you want it to stay that way as long as possible. 95% of our clientèle believe in protector because they see the difference it makes. Protector helps the carpet stay cleaner longer; and, if you use our Bear Tracks Spot Remover that we leave you, the spills and spots come up much easier.  All in all, the protector extends the life of your carpet along with so many other benefits.

I have allergies so should I get rid of my carpet & go with hard surfaces?

No, your carpet is like an air filter which traps dirt and allergens. When you walk across hard surfaces the dirt and allergens continue to be kicked up into the air you breathe; carpet holds them down.  However, carpet does require maintenance.  It is necessary to remove the dirt it has trapped, and it is easier to do so when you set up a regular cleaning schedule based on the carpet's traffic pattern and wear.

Why does my dog continue to use my wool rug for his potty?

There could be many reasons for your pet to urinate on the wool rug. One main reason is that the pet thinks the rug is another animal, since wool comes from an animal.  Some pets see the rug as a threat, that there is another animal in their territory; so, they mark it to show the "animal" it is not wanted and need to leave. Each day your dog goes into the room and that foreign animal hasn't left, it will continue to mark that rug until it is gone.

How long does it take for the carpet to dry?

We have extremely fast dry times. In most cases with the Big Bear Truck we can have carpet dry to the touch before we leave your home. We also have Grizzly Dryers to insure a speedy dry time in case a client has a party that evening.

How long do I need to stay off the carpet once you clean?

You can resume using the areas that we clean as long as you wear clean rubber-soled shoes. If protector was applied to the carpet you will want to stay off until it has had time to take hold of the fiber, which may take a few hours, but if you need to go into a room before the protector is dry, you may need to wear rubber-soled shoes. You don't want to wear socks or absorbent material on your feet until the protector dries or you will walk it off.
